Annual Site Environmental Report for 2009

Technical Reports

  • Ecological Research at the Idaho National Environmental Research Park (NERP) - A total of 41 graduate students, post-doctoral students, faculty and agency and contractor scientists participated in 19 research projects on the Idaho NERP in 2009. Several undergraduate students and technicians also gained valuable experience through participation in these research activities.

Much of the research addresses conservation planning issues applicable to the INL Site. These issues include preparing for potential Endangered Species Act listings, understanding wildland fire effects, minimizing invasive species impacts and understanding long-term trends in plant community composition, sagebrush health and potential effects of climate change.

  • National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants—Calendar Year 2009 INL Report for Radionuclides - This report documents the calendar year 2009 radionuclide air emissions and
resulting effective dose equivalent to the maximally exposed individual member of the public from operations at the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory Site. This report was prepared in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 40, “Protection of the Environment,” Part 61, “National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants,” Subpart H, “National Emission Standards for Emissions of Radionuclides Other than Radon from Department of Energy Facilities.” The effective dose equivalent to the maximally exposed individual member of the public was 6.87E-02 mrem per year, 0.69 percent of the 10 mrem standard.

  • Idaho National Laboratory Environmental Monitoring Plan - The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) consists of eight major facilities located in southeastern Idaho within a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) specified boundary, typically referred to as the “INL Site,” and several laboratories and administrative buildings located in Idaho Falls, Idaho, approximately 48 km (30 mi) east of the INL Site boundary. This plan describes routine environmental compliance and surveillance monitoring of airborne and liquid effluents, and ecological and meteorological conditions in and around the vicinity of the INL Site.
