The INL Ecological
Support for Land
Management Program
The
GSS team provides ecological support to the Department
of Energy-Idaho for land management issues at the INL. The
DOE-ID, as landholder of the INL, has a stewardship
responsibility to know and understand the environmental
resources of the INL, and also has legal obligation to
address any potential impacts to these resources. GSS's
objectives in the area of service and support to DOE-ID are:
Perform and interpret
vegetation surveys.
Perform wildlife surveys.
Conduct field investigations
and offer ecological recommendations for the National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. NEPA requires
all federal agencies to consider environmental impacts
of proposed actions before selecting alternative
approaches. Stoller will provide expertise and advice to
DOE-ID personnel in meeting these requirements.
Assess the impacts of natural
phenomena at the INL, including fire, drought and
cyclical weather patterns.
Serve as point-of-contact for
the exchange of technical information with Native
American Tribes, and State and Federal land management
and wildlife agencies.
